Cendere is a very historic river corridor. In the Ottoman times, people came here for picnicking, celebrating religious days, festivals under the moon. Later, the area lost its romantic pastoral look and became the site for illegal housing developments, some industrial developments. All the historic remnants and artifacts have been either totally destroyed or altered by this rather unfortunate developments. The river corridor has been turned into a concrete canal which eventually became a hazard factor due to water pollution. Moreover, a deep section of this concrete canal has impaired people’s interaction with the river. This project aims to reverse the aforementioned negative impacts and gain back the cultural and natural qualities of the once upon a time poetic river.
